The Dr. Matrix Award for Science Excellence on the World-Wide Web is presented to those sites which serve an active scientific curiosity. Recipients are distinguished by the quality of their content alone. A flashy Web site will not receive this award if its content lacks interest and integrity. A simple Web site will receive this award if it serves the interests of discovery, mental enrichment and thoughtful enjoyment. This award doesn't go to "cool" sites. It goes to the great sites. It's not a daily or weekly award, but an award based on presence, here and now. It is given in gratitude, with no other request but that those maintaining the site keep doing what they're doing.

If you know of a site which you feel deserves recognition, based upon these standards, please write to me.

The final decision about who receives these awards and who is denied them is, at present, strictly my own. As with any awards presented by an individual, personal preference creeps in. For example, I don't have a lot of patience with superstition and muddled thinking. Flying saucers and "paranormal phenomena" are typically out - and this means astrologers and psychics too! Exceptions in this category would only be sites where testable supporting evidence can be supplied and to which investigative efforts can be applied. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Given the proof and a means of verification then, of course, no investigation is unworthy.

There's one other qualifier I haven't mentioned, but it's perhaps the most important of all. I ask myself "Does this Web site have to be as it is, or does it display initiative, altruism, and love?" If the answer is the latter, then the site gets high marks.
